Our Mission

The SSA Citizens’ Action Group’s (SSACAG) mission is to amplify the public’s voice in shaping the operations that profoundly affect our daily lives as they concern The Steamship Authority. Our collective goal is clear: the Steamship Authority must prioritize responsiveness to the public it serves. This includes better communication with the public regarding fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability, effective long-term strategic planning, openness to diverse perspectives, meaningful community engagement, and the well-being, growth and safety of its employees.

Key Areas of Focus

New General Manager Search: Advocating for leadership that will result in the hire of a industry-proven individual who will provide SSA with a clear and aspirational vision, care of the well-being of its employees, fiscal responsibility, reliable and safe transportation and respect for the citizens and towns it serves.

Legislative Reforms: Introducing term limits for the SSA Board of Governors, and advocating for comprehensive state operational and financial audits as mandated by law in The Enabling Act.

Improved Communication: Ensuring that the voice of the “customer” is heard and valued at SSA.

Port Alliances: Building an on-going coalition with citizens’ action groups from all five towns/ports to strengthen our collective voice.
